I love my school very much. It is really modern and spacious. Very often I spend time there even after lessons. My favorite place at school is our school library. There are three zones there.
Я очень люблю свою школу. Она очень современная и просторная. Очень часто я провожу время там даже после уроков. Мое любимое место в школе — наша школьная библиотека. В ней есть три зоны.
The first is the reading room. We must be silent there. A lot of pupils go there to do homework. Besides, there are pupils, who just want to relax and read something after the lessons. The reading room is furnished with comfortable armchairs and padded chairs. It is important to mention that in my school library is very big and rich. There are not only textbooks but also there are a lot of books of different genres. So pupils can sit in the reading room and read their favorite books free of charge. Besides, there are numerous scientific articles and magazines. Our librarian is a very nice woman. She is always ready to help all pupils with the choice.

Кроме того, есть такие ученики, которые просто хотят отдохнуть и что-то почитать после уроков. Читальный зал оборудован комфортными креслами и мягкими стульями. Важно отметить, что библиотека в моей школе очень большая и богатая. Там есть не только учебники, но и много книг различных жанров. Так, ученики могут сидеть в читальном зале и читать свои любимые книги бесплатно. Кроме того, в библиотеке есть множество научных статей и журналов. Наш библиотекарь очень хорошая женщина. Она всегда готова помочь всем учащимся с выбором.
The second zone in our school library is a room with computers. We can use the Internet there. Very often pupils prepare reports or presentations on various subjects there. The third zone of our school library is so called recreation zone. There are lots of sofas, where we can sit after the lessons and communicate with each other. Moreover, there are numerous desktop games. In this room, we normally have some literature conferences and disputes. Our school library is the place where we can spend time with great pleasure!
Вторая зона в нашей школьной библиотеке — комната с компьютерами. Мы можем использовать Интернет там. Очень часто учащиеся готовят там доклады или презентации на разные темы. Третья зона нашей школьной библиотеке — зона отдыха. В ней есть много диванчиков, где мы можем посидеть после уроков и пообщаться друг с другом. Кроме того, там есть множество настольных игр. В этой комнате у нас обычно проходят литературные конференции или дебаты. Наша школьная библиотека — это место, где мы можем провести время с большим удовольствием!

Lena Stogova likes to read interesting books. She very often goes to the library to read books there or to take out a book to read at home.
When you go into the children’s library, you first see a large room with shelves on all the walls, and all the shelves are full of books. There are picture-books with pictures and stories for small boys and girls.
For older children, there are novels, plays, books on history, geography and the arts. Books on history and geography are very popular.
Lena likes books on literature very much. Russian writers interest her most of all. She often takes out works by Pushkin, Lermontov, Chekhov, Gorky and others. She likes Pushkin’s poems, but she reads Mayakovsky’s poems, too.
There is a table in the room at which the librarian sits. She gives out and takes back books. Many boys and girls are standing in front of the table. They are bringing back the books they have read and taking out the books they have chosen.
Lena sees Kolya, her classmate. He is bringing back a book about animals.
On the right of the big room is the reading-room, where there are tables and chairs. Near the wall there is a stand with newspapers and magazines. Many boys and girls are reading books, magazines or newspapers.

Лина очень любит книги по литературе. Больше всего ее интересуют русские писатели. Она часто берет произведения Пушкина, Лермонтова, Чехова, Горького и других авторов. Она любит стихотворения Пушкина, но также читает и стихотворения Маяковского.
В комнате есть стол, за которым сидит библиотекарь. Она выдает и принимает книги. Перед столом стоит много мальчиков и девочек. Они приносят книги, которые прочитали, и берут книги, которые выбрали.
Лина видит Колю, своего одноклассника. Он возвращает книгу о животных.
Справа от большой комнаты читальный зал, в котором находятся столы и стулья. Там возле стены есть стенд с газетами и журналами. Много мальчиков и девочек читают книги, журналы или газеты.

The School Library
I like to read interesting books. I have a lot of books at home, but nevertheless I go to the library. I go to the library to read books there or to take them out to read at home.
Our school has a big and rich library. It is on the first floor. The library is full of publications necessary for work at different subjects. There are books on art, physics, mathematics and also a lot of books by Russian and foreign writers, such as: Pushkin, Lermontov, Tolstoi, Dickens, London, Burns and others. There are lot of books by modern writers.
These books tell us about the most important problems of life and teach how to solve them. There are lots of magazines and newspapers in our library. We often use them preparing for the reports or the discussions. Sometimes we can come to the library and read them just for fun. Because they always contain very interesting and useful articles.
There is a stand in our library which illustrates the most important political events in our and other countries, articles about famous people and funny stories. There is another stand that is the exposition of new books.
Our librarian is always ready to help us to choose a necessary book.Sometimes we have literary disputes in our library. Our librarian often invites poets, journalists and other interesting people to meet with us. The pupils of our school like the library very much and go there with great pleasure.

Я люблю читать интересные книги. У меня есть много книг дома, но тем не менее, я хожу в библиотеку. Я иду в библиотеку, чтобы читать книги там, или взять их, чтобы читать дома.
Наша школа имеет большую и богатую библиотеку. Он находится на первом этаже. Библиотека полна публикаций необходимых для работы на разные темы. Есть книги по искусству, физике, математике, а также много книг русских и зарубежных писателей, таких как: Пушкин, Лермонтов, Толстой, Диккенс, Лондон, Бернс и других. Есть много книг современных авторов.
Эти книги рассказывают нам о самых важных проблемах жизни, учат их решать. Есть много журналов и газет в нашей библиотеке. Мы часто используем их при подготовке докладов или обсуждений. Иногда мы можем прийти в библиотеку и читать их просто для удовольствия. Потому что они всегда содержат очень интересные и полезные статьи.
Существует стэнд в нашей библиотеке, который иллюстрирует самые важные политические события в нашей и других странах, статьи об известных людях и смешные истории. Существует еще один стэнд, который является экспозицией новых книг.
Наш библиотекарь всегда готов помочь нам выбрать необходимые книги. Иногда мы проводим литературные споры в нашей библиотеке. Наш библиотекарь часто приглашает поэтов, журналистов и других интересных людей, чтобы встретиться с нами. Ученики нашей школы очень любят нашу библиотеку и ходят туда с удовольствием.
Libraries
The word ‘library’ comes from the Latin word ‘liber’, meaning ‘book’. This is a place where information in print (book, manuscripts, periodicals and musical scores) and in other forms is collected. Libraries can be found in many places. There are libraries in small towns and large cities and there are libraries at schools, universities, colleges. People go to the library to read, look, listen, search, inquire, relax, discuss, learn and think.
The largest and the best known libraries in the world are: the British National library in London, the Library of Congress in Washington and The Russian State Library. The British Library is the largest state library in Britain and is one of the finest libraries in the world. It is a rapidly growing modern research library with all its current publications. People who want to read for higher degrees and who are engaged in research in their spare time visit this library.
Other library which is known throughout the world is the Library of Congress. It was established as a reference library in 1600 and gradually would come a world famous institution that now occupies three huge buildings. A great number of items in collections of books, newspapers, periodicals, manuscripts, films, maps and works of drama, music, art and important and exciting documents from American history are kept in library’s archives. There are materials on practically every subject to which members of Congress can refer.
And now I would tell you about Lenin State Library. The Lenin Library is the central library and is one of the world’s largest. The old library building was built by Vasily Bashenov in 1786 on a hill opposite the Kremlin and it was a typical example of a Moscow town residence of that time. Its new buildings were built in 1940. When the library was founded in 1961, it contained over 1000.000 volumes, and was then located in the old Pashkov part of the complex. In 1915 its one reading room had a sitting capacity of only 170. Now it has 23 reading rooms of 2500 seating capacities and a book fund of 27 millions. There a wide choice of books: fiction, non-fiction, serious books, detective stories, science fiction, biographic, history and encyclopedias which are extremely useful in work, because it gives information about every branch of knowledge.
Of cource there is a catalogue of books. The titles and authors of all the books in the library can be found in a card catalogue or a computer listing. Each card in catalogue gives very helpful information about the book; the title send to the author, the time and place of publication and the even something about it contents. The library is used daily by around 10000 people.
Most libraries have a professionally staff whose first duty is to help you. Librarians also select books and other materials, organize materials so that you can easily use them, answer questions about facts, people, events, or advise you how to find the information you need. The library today is a centre for all kinds of communications: printed, pictured, recorded and even electronically stored.

By the middle of the 1st century BC there were about 700,000 papyrus rolls in the library.
The first libraries in Russia were established in medieval monasteries. Public libraries were opened in the 19 century at the Academy of Sciences and Moscow University.
The library today is a centre for all kinds of communications: printed, pictured, recorded, and even electronically stored. People go to the library to read, look, listen, search, inquire, relax, discuss, learn, and think.
Libraries can be found in many places. There are libraries in small towns and large cities, and there are libraries in schools, universities, colleges. The largest and best known libraries in the world are: the British National Library in London, the Library of Congress in Washington and the Russian State Library.

Many people have books at home. These are the books of their favourite authors, dictionaries and reference books and the like. My family also has a home library. It was my grandfather who started to collect it at the beginning of the century. There are over two thousand books in it. The authors I like most of all are Chekhov, Bulgakov, Fitzgerald, Cortasar and others.

Библиотека сегодня является центром всех видов коммуникации: печатных, фото носителей, записанных на пленку, и даже в электронной форме. Люди ходят в библиотеку чтобы читать книги, смотреть, слушать, искать, запрашивать, расслабиться, обсудить, учиться и думать.
Библиотеки есть во многих местах. Есть библиотеки в малых и крупных городах, есть в школах, университетах, колледжах. Крупнейшие и наиболее известные библиотеки в мире: Британская национальная библиотека в Лондоне, Библиотека Конгресса в Вашингтоне и Русская государственная библиотека.
Многие имеют книги у себя дома. Это книги ваших любимых авторов, словари, справочники и тому подобное. Моя семья также имеет домашнюю библиотеку. Мой дедушка начал собирать ее в начале прошлого века. В ней более 2000 книг. Мне нравится больше всего нравятся Чехов, Булгаков, Фитцджеральд, Кортасара и другие.
