Arms of the city of Yelets
The modern coat of arms of Yelets approved September 28, 2004. The basis of the coat of arms was put to historical the emblem of 1781 «In white field red deer under green spruce».
The history of the city Yelets
The ancient Russian city of Yelets is located in the South-Eastern edge of the Central Russian hills, on the border of forest-steppe and steppe. Elets
Елец – один из древнейших городов России, выделяющийся выгодным географическим положением, дающим благоприятные условия жизни, с исторически сложившимся промышленным производством, с богатым культурным и историческим наследием. Это единственный город Липецкой области, находящийся в списке 41 города Российской Федерации, имеющих ценные в историческом, художественном и градостроительном отношении ансамбли и комплексы городской застройки, природные ландшафты, образцы древней планировки, а также археологический культурный слой.
Елец славится также и своими доблестными воинскими подвигами. Указом Президента Российской Федерации от 08 октября 2007 года городу Ельцу присвоено почетное звание Российской Федерации «Город воинской славы».
Современный Елец – промышленный и культурный центр. Численность постоянного населения города составляет более 106 тысяч человек. Второй по величине и значимости город в Липецкой области занимает территорию 70,67 квадратных километров. Елец – по плотности населения занимает второе место в Липецкой области (1505,3 чел./кв.км).
