William Shakespeare (1564-1616) was one of the greatest and famous writers in human history. He was born in Stratford-on-Avon, a small town in the middle of England. His father wanted his son to be a well-educated person and William was sent to the local grammar school.
Studying at school the boy actually did not have any free time. But he spent his rare spare hours walking in the forest or watching the river Avon.
Those days there were not a lot of theatres in towns and actors and actresses had to travel moving from one place to another with their shows. Sometimes they visited Stratford-on-Avon. William liked to watch them playing. He got fond of their profession and he decided to become an actor.
He went to London and there he became an actor. At that time he began to write plays too. Shakespeare was at the same time an actor and a playwright. In his works he reflected events of his contemporaries’ life. His plays were staged in many theatres, translated into many foreign languages. That made Shakespeare a very popular man.
William Shakespeare wrote also a lot of poetry including his unbeaten sonnets. There are numerous songs written with his poems. He is still most often published author of the world and well known among people. We do not know much about his life. We can only guess what kind of man he was analyzing the legends and a few documents of the time.
Shakespeare died in 1616, but millions people today still admire his plays.

There have been many great writers in the history of English literature, but there is no doubt about which writer was the greatest. Many people consider William Shakespeare to have been the best writer who ever lived.
William Shakespeare was born in the town of Stratford, England, in the year 1564. When he was a young man, Shakespeare moved to the city of London, where he began writing plays. His plays were soon very successful, and were enjoyed both by the common people of London and also by the rich and famous. In addition to his plays, Shakespeare wrote many short poems and a few longer poems. Like his plays, these poems are still famous today.
Shakespeare’s most famous plays include Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Hamlet, King Lear, Othello, and Julius Caesar. Usually, Shakespeare did not invent the stories that he told in his plays. Instead, he wrote his plays using stories that already existed. However, Shakespeare’s plays told these stories in a more interesting way than ever before. Some of the stories were tragedies, some were comedies, and some described historical events.
In his plays, Shakespeare revealed a very wide knowledge of many areas of life. The characters in his plays discuss many different topics, often with the knowledge of experts. But what is even more impressive about these plays is Shakespeare’s use of the English language. His vocabulary was very large, and Shakespeare seems to have introduced many words to the language! Also, many of the phrases that are said by Shakespeare’s characters are now used in everyday conversation. Today, writers often use quotations from Shakespeare’s plays in their own works.
But perhaps even the most impressive features of Shakespeare’s plays are the characters within them. The many characters in his plays seem very different from each other, but they seem very realistic. The emotions they feel, the words they say, and the actions they perform are all easily understood. Many people who watch one of Shakespeare’s plays will find that they know people who remind them somewhat of the characters in those plays.
Shakespeare died in the year 1619, but his writings are still popular today, 400 years after they were written. The poems and plays are greatly admired by experts in literature, but also by people in general. Each year, hundreds of thousands of people enjoy attending performances of Shakespeare’s plays. No other writer in the English language has remained so popular for such a long time.

Young Shakespeare got a classical education and got married at the age of 18. His wife was a local girl, Anne Hathaway, who gave birth to their 3 children.
Nobody knew William Shakespeare before 1592 when he appeared in London as a playwriter. His first play was called «Titus Andronicus» after which he continued writing and created plays on historical themes, comedies and also wrote his first tragedy “Romeo and Juliet”.
During the first decade of the XVII Shakespear turned to tragedies and created his greatest ones: «Hamlet» «Othello» «Macbeth» and «King Lear». All of them had a great success. Moreover, William was an amazing poet known for his sonnets which are the poems consisting of 14 lines with a moral at the end. All his works deal with themes of love, friendship, death, change and immortality and often contain great philosophical ideas.
Shakespeare’s major activity was related to drama. He became a full shareholder in his acting company and was a co-owner of «the Globe» and «the Blackfriars» theatres. “The Globe” theatre was and still is one of the best theatres in the world. Shakespeare died on April 23, 1616 but his works are still read and performed on stage or adapted into films.

Everyone has heard the name William Shakespeare. He had left us a rich cultural heritage. But what do we know about his life?
As he was born in 16 th century a lot of information had been lost. But thanks to remaining documents we know about some of the important events of his life.
William was born in Stratford, which is a small market town 146 km north west of London. He was the 3 rd child in the family and had 7 siblings. His father was a respected man.
William Shakespeare got married at the age of 18. His wife Anne was 8 years older than William. By the time of the wedding she was already pregnant.
The girl was called Susanna. Two years later Anne gave birth to twins, a boy and a girl. But the boy died at the age of 11. As far as we know Susanna was William’s favorite child and he left her most of his estate under the will.
Actually William spent many years apart from his family in London. He might have several jobs before he started working in theater, but no one knows for sure.
We know William Shakespeare as a writer and a poet, but he was also a talented actor. He was very successful and became a co-owner of the theater.
According to remaining portraits he was rather handsome and elegant man. He had a high forehead, a thin nose and expressive eyes. On one of his portraits one can see an earring in his ear, which was fashionable at that time.
Even though Shakespeare’s works had received broad recognition only in 19 th century, he managed to become a rather wealthy man during his lifetime.
So, no doubt, the dramatist had a full life. I guess that only experiencing the full range of emotions made the plots of his plays so profound. So we can only guess what other events, never mentioned in any documents, took place.

William Shakespeare is the greatest of all playwrights and poets of all times. Not much is known of his life. He was probably the son of a businessman and was born in 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon. He probably attended the local grammar school and got a classical education. In 1582 he married Anne Hathaway and had 3 children. Little is known of his life before 1592, when he appeared as a playwright in London. Soon he became an actor playing supporting roles like the ghost in «Hamlet». In 1599 Shakespeare became a part owner of the Globe Theatre in London.
Shakespeare’s work as a playwright is subdivided into 3 periods. Written in the first period, Shakespeare’s plays are mostly history plays like «Henry VI», and comedies with strong elements of farce. His masterpiece of this period is «Romeo and Juliet».
Shakespeare was a great poet and would be well known for his poetry alone. His major achievement as a poet is his sonnets, first published in 1609. A sonnet is a poem consisting of 14 lines, with a moral at the end. The sonnets are addressed to some «W.H.», and to mysterious «Dark Lady of Sonnets». The sonnets deal with the great themes of love, friendship, death, change and immortality. Shakespeare looks at his own poetry as a means of immortality. Shakespeare’s sonnets are excellent. They are full of harmony and music; they praise love, friendship and beauty, though there is no sentimentality in them.
Shakespeare’s poetry is at the summit of human achievement. Many centuries have passed since his death in 1616, but Shakespeare is still considered to be the greatest of all playwrights and poets.
2. Life of Shakespeare.
The great poet and dramatist William Shakespeare is often called by his people «Our National Bard», «The Immortal Poet of Nature» and «The Great Unknown». More than two hundred contemporary references to Shakespeare have been located amoung church records, legal records, documents in the Public Record Office, and miscellaneous repositories. When these owe assembled, we have at least the sceleton out line of his life, begining with his baptist on April 26, 1564, in Trinity Church, Stratford-on-Avon, and ending with his burial there on April 25, 1616. Shakespeare’s native place was Sratford-on-Avon, a little town in Warwickshire, which is generally described as being in the middle of England.
Shakespeare’s father, John, was a prosperious glove maker of Stratford who, after holding minor municipal offices, was elected high bailiff of Stratford. Shakespeare’s mother Mary Arden, came from an affluent family of landowners.
Shakespeare probably recieved his early education at the exellent Stratford Grammar School, supervised by an Oxford graduate, where he would have learned Latin smattering of Greek. In 1582 Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway, who lived in a neighboring hamlet. The first child born to Ann and William was their daughter Susanna. In about two years Ann bore him twins a boy and a girl, Hamlet and Jidith.
Then life in Stratford became intolerable for William Shakespeare and he decided to go to London and begin a theatrical career. Shakespeare’s major activity lays in the field of drama. He became a full shareholder in his acting company, he was co-owner of «the Globe» theatre and later of «the Blackfriars» theatre, and in 1597 he purchased property in Strarford, including one of the largest houses in the town. He probably retired about 1610, travelling to London when necessary to take care of his theatrical business. In all, 154 sonnets were written. The sonnets were probably created in the 1590 but were first published in 1609.
