The Russian Motherland Calls vs Statue of Liberty in New York is a popular comparison. After all, they’re almost the same in such a way that they’re both towering statues of a woman. They both look amazing and if you have the means for it, you should make it a part of your bucket list to visit both.

The Motherland Calls Statue in Volgograd, Russia

The statue is located in Mamayev Kurgan in Volgograd, Russia. It’s a statue that commemorates the world-famous WW2 Battle of Stalingrad. It was designed by Yevgeny Vuchetich who’s a sculptor and the structure was engineered by Nikolai Nikitin.

Its name, “Statue of Liberty” is actually a shortened version of its real name which is “Liberty Enlightening the World”. This is a translation of its French name, “La Liberté éclairant le monde”. It has a French name because it was a gift of the French people to the United States.
Designed by French-Italian sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, this massive structure is situated in the Liberty Island right in the middle of the New York Harbor in Manhattan.
The statue signifies freedom. It provides a good welcome to immigrants coming in from all over the world.
Comparing the Motherland Calls and the Statue of Liberty
The Motherland and the Statue of Liberty are both statues of a woman. The former’s “calling card” is the fact that it holds a sword up high using its right hand, with the left hand stretched out as if calling someone. This makes it more complex than the latter since the Statue of Liberty simply represents Libertas who is the Roman goddess of freedom. The statue bears a torch in its right hand while clutching the tabula ansata with its left hand.
The Motherland Calls is also winning the height competition vs the Statue of Liberty. It was the tallest statue in the world at the time of its dedication in 1967. It’s not the world’s tallest statue these days, but at a total height of 279 feet, it remains to be the tallest statue of a woman.
While shorter in total height, the Statue of Liberty is still impressive at a total height of 151 feet. It stands on a pedestal that is roughly the same height. This brings the total height of the statue itself and pedestal to 305 feet. This makes it the largest statue in the United States.
